All fans of basketball want to have that perfect collection of their favorite players, but many do not know what to buy, how to buy and where to buy from. Let us deal with what to buy here. Very simply, people flounder at the choices available and therefore end up buying basketball cards that are either duplicates or not as valuable as they assume. So what does one collect and what are the latest choices available, is the query in most collectors mind, especially collectors who have started a basketball card collection recently or planning to start a new collection.

Rookie cards are the most sought after cards in the game of basketball. Most players, via their basketball players union, have entered into a contract with the card manufacturing companies. Hence they almost immediately come out with a rookie card of the player, before he even appears in his first game. These cards of the players, especially those with a lot of promise, are highly popular and are a good buy. Also, rookie cards of existing players, who are both excellent in the game and popular, should form a part of your collection, as they are valued very highly. The value of rookie card fluctuates on large scale and is determined by various factors like performance of the player, past record and his popularity in public. Rookie cards are a good bet to be used as trading cards.

Among other collectible cards, come the limited card editions released by the various basketball card manufacturing companies. Some basketball cards come with the authentic signature of basketball players and are quite popular among collectors as it gives a personal touch to their basketball card collection.

Lastly, of course, all sports card manufacturing companies come out with their own checklists that help us get an idea of what to buy and where to buy it. These checklists can be compared with the price guides that mention the value of each card and hence helping in taking the final decision as regards purchase depending on one’s budgetary allowance.

Calculating the Value of Your Basketball cards

January 21st 2008

Basketball card collecting is an age old hobby that has brought together many basketball fans. Card collectors often form a community of their own, discussing and trading their sports cards amongst themselves. If you are planning to collect or sell basketball cards, it is necessary to know the value of the card, as the value will determine its price. This is of great importance as trading basketball cards can be risky and one needs to be cautious. The question now is, how is the value of a basketball card determined? The following steps will help and guide you in determining the value of your basketball card.

First, the condition of your basketball card plays a very important role in determining its value. Any card that is kept in impeccable condition will be valuable and fetch a high price for the seller. So it is important to determine the condition of the card before actually selling it. Condition of the card can be easily determined by a local card shop dealer or any online site which guides you to determine the condition of basketball card yourself. There are fixed criteria on which condition of the basketball card is determined and the approximate value it can fetch.

Secondly, the year of the card is very important as older vintage cards are more valuable when compared to newer ones. Also, if you possess a rookie card, then its value increases as rookie cards of players are in greater demand. Similarly, if your card is from a rare and limited edition, then its scarcity will increase the value of the basketball card. To get more information regarding the basketball card history, origin and other details, do as much as research possible.

Lastly, the best way to identify the exact value of the basketball card is to subscribe and read price guides that talk about the value of the card. Also internet auction sites are another resource that gives you information about the value of your card and can be a valuable tool in determining the value of your basketball card. To find a price, find a card similar to your card listed on Ebay and track it. Once the auction has expired, take a look at the final price for the basketball card to get an idea of its value.

Rookie Basketball Cards for a few of Today’s Stars

January 13th 2004

Are you into collecting the current modern basketball cards? Well, as we all know, some of the cards that become the most valuable are rookie cards! Now, what about valuable 2007/2008 rookie cards? Well, here are the ones that are getting hot so far.

Upper deck card number 11 from that year features young Kevin Durant of the Seattle Sonics. I have seen this card go for as much as $25! Also remember that having your basketball cards graded can increase the value, as most modern dealers always get the cards graded, especially if they are being sold online.

How about Upper Deck card number 20? Also from 2007-2008, this card features rookie Greg Oden. This Portland Trailblazer seems to be blazing himself a trail indeed, and the collectors who get a hold of this basketball rookie card will be doing no different!

Also, don’t forget about Al Horford of the Atlanta Hawks. This native of the Dominican Republic is pictured on Upper Deck card number 16. I don’t know what you think, but I see this card as a possible strong investment, with potential value to the upside. Not to mention that the basketball card itself is awesome. A lot of these new Upper deck cards look awesome.

It is a shame that Topps stopped printing Basketball cards back in the 1980s. They would undoubtedly have printed some serious basketball cards today. However, this just makes the Topps basketball cards that are around more valuable yet, so don’t pass one of those up if you ever get the chance to nab one.
