January 14th 2008

Collecting Basketball cards is a hobby that has recently become very popular. In the early days, the game saw very few enthusiasts and hence the number of basketball sports cards available was manufactured by few companies and was also few in numbers. It was quite easy for basketball fans to buy and collect basketball cards, however, the entire scenario has changed today, given the rising popularity of the game, many companies have started manufacturing basketball cards and there are lot of varieties, designs and shapes available in the market. Here we shall deal with a few pointers on what basketball cards to buy that will determine their future value and card price.

The first step towards starting any card collecting hobby is to understand your budgetary allowances. You have to set a price limit for your purchases, which in other words mean, that you have to decide the amount you are willing to spend on your basketball card collection. Price of cards can be compared using the various online card price guides that are available as well as the online sources of cards for sale. These will help you identify important and valuable cards and also give you information regarding the various bargains available for basketball cards.

Once the price range is decided, you can first choose to start with a set of beginners cards that are easily available at all hobby stores. You could also buy rookie cards of the players you like who are playing today as they can usually found easily and affordable. Another choice for collectors today is that they can also buy cards with serial numbers. A brief history of Basketball card collecting

December 28th 2007

Fans of various sports have often found themselves collecting sports cards of their favorite players and trading them. Sports card collecting started sometime way back in the 1930’s where player cards were used to promote sales of tobacco products and later gum. However, the early player cards were those of baseball and football players. Basketball fans had to wait until much later when card manufacturers, realizing the growing popularity of the game, started making basketball player cards. Now it is a multi million dollar industry. Basketball card collecting has become a big business in the recent years.

Basketball as a game became popular 20 years ago in the 1980s, where people started actually buying player cards and discussing statistics. Basketball cards helped basketball fans to keep in touch with their favorite players. In the early days of the basketball card collecting hobby, cards were easily available at the local pharmacy, gas station, hobby store or candy store. Given its lack of popularity, there were fewer companies manufacturing cards of basketball players and hence were easily available for much cheaper than baseball cards. If you wanted the card of a particular basketball player, then all you did was ask for his card or keep buying card sets from the manufacturer, until you got your desired card. One of the leading manufacturers of basketball players cards is Topps and they have held their own ground since late 1960s. However, today it is not that simple as there are many companies in the market, that have started manufacturing and selling basketball cards. There are many choices available to the collector, in terms of manufacturer. Each card company has its own set of cards that may differ from the others. Faced with a variety of checklists and choices, it is difficult to state that your collection is complete. With auction sites coming into the picture, the entire collecting job has become very easy and convenient for collectors who can now sit at home and buy basketball cards easily with technology like the Internet which has made the whole world as one small global community.

December 14th 2007

Finding collectible basketball cards for your collection no longer means trolling around at a sports card convention or your local sports player card shop. With BasketballCardChase.com, you can find old or new, vintage or modern basketball cards in the same way you use a search engine on the Internet.

First, you need to know the name of the play whose basketball card you are interested in. Type the name of the basketball player into the player name field. BasketballCardChase.com can accept a first name, last name or both the first and last name. It is important that you spell the name of the player correctly to get good basketball card search results.

If you are interested in a player card from a specific year, you can enter the year into the correct field. The year is optional and is not required to get results of basketball cards. However, the year should be four digits and not just two numbers.

Like we mentioned earlier, finding the classic, old basketball card is easy. Once you have the name and the optional year typed in, just click the search button and basketballcardchase.com will search the Internet for the basketball card you need for your sports card collection.

Basketball Player Card Results for BasketballCardChase.com

December 5th 2007

Testing of the BasketballCardChase.com website is continuing. We’ve been focusing recently on ensuring that search results for sports cards of basketball players returns results that are helpful to the collector.

The most recent round of searching for basketball cards was successful with results from most of the sites in our database. Best results came from Ebay, where we found player cards plentiful from the past 20 years. Earlier than that, basketball cards were still available, but values were heading up.

Beyond Ebay, search results for basketball cards were mixed. Most sites had good inventory of prices and player cards from the recent past. However, there were just a few sites that had results from players more than 50 years ago.

We will continue running searches for basketball cards and report any other issues here.
